Our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon “1886” represents the pinnacle of Ehlers Estate winemaking. This winemaking tradition continues with the 2005 vintage. Crafted from a selection of our finest estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes for this wine come from vines grown on our most rocky and porous soils. This soil composition makes the plants cultivated on these blocks struggle earlier in the growing season, resulting in grapes with the concentration, power and complexity necessary for inclusion in our “1886” bottling. The cool 2005 growing season has produced a wide array of aromas in this wine, highlighted by black cherry, tarragon, white flowers and mint chocolate. Bright notes of raspberry fill the mid-palate, interwoven with flavors of anise, currant and maple. Lingering elements of creamy oak, black cherry and juicy tannins create a balanced mouth feel at the heart of this dense, powerful wine.
