A beautiful, 100% Cabernet Franc with great structure, firm, mature tanins, and compelling flavors. Aromas are reminiscent of a walk in the forest in Autumn, with dried brambles and dusty, stony undertones, woven into the black raspberry and red plums that we expect from an Ehlers Cabernet Franc. Full body, clean clear terroir expression, this is a perfect change-up to your best Cabernet Sauvignons.
After three years of drought, the 2010 vintage rolled in with an unseasonably cold wet spring and left the vines with plenty of ground water. The buds came out a full two weeks later than normal, and the late season growth continued through flowering, fruit-set, and clear into ripening. 2010 was the coolest summer on record for the Napa Valley and the grapes developed slowly to full maturity without any adverse influences from the weather. Ehlers is nestled in one of the warmer parts of the Napa Valley, and without exception, our grapes sweetened up beautifully with small berries, thick skins, and intense flavors. The resulting wines are outstanding.
