A voluptuous, full-bodied, heavyweight Cabernet Sauvignon from the loamy benchland soils of our north St. Helena estate vineyard. The wine is layered with blackberry, black plums, dark chocolate, tobacco, very subtle muscone notes, and wrapped seamlessly in velvety tannins that create a structure and balance that is “classically Ehlers.” Compelling and complex, this is a fine Bordeaux style Cabernet blend that will age for decades.
After three years of drought, the 2010 vintage rolled in with an unseasonably cold wet spring and left the vines with plenty of ground water. The buds came out a full two weeks later than normal, and the late season growth continued through flowering, fruit-set, and clear into ripening. 2010 was the coolest summer on record for the Napa Valley and the grapes developed slowly to full maturity without any adverse influences from the weather. Ehlers is nestled in one of the warmer parts of the Napa Valley, and without exception, our grapes sweetened up beautifully with small berries, thick skins, and intense flavors. The resulting wines are outstanding.
