Tasting Notes: Our Petit Verdot is a rarity. A variety usually blended with other Bordeaux varieties; it shines in our Estate vineyards as a solo. With only 2 acres planted over well-drained soils, we are able to achieve full ripeness and smoother tannins, making it ideal to be consumed on its own. The 2019 Ehlers Estate Petit Verdot is 100% Petit Verdot. Deep Purple in color, with intense aromas of mocha, toffee, dark berries, candied cherries, and spice rack. Medium to full body, with bold, velvety tannins. Earthy, roasted almonds, cocoa, and dark fruit. Great acidity, well balanced with the tannin structure, concentrated flavors, and round mouthfeel. An elegant wine that is approachable right away. But it will age exceptionally well for 10-15 more years. Unfined/Unfiltered.

Vintage: 2019 turned out to be a near-perfect vintage.  With a cold rainy winter and extended rainy season into late spring, we had a couple of weeks delay in flowering and setting.  All the work in the vineyard was tricky due to the rains.  But a warm, late summer helped us to catch up phenologically.  A cooling trend followed the summer that allowed us to hang the fruit longer for more flavor and tannin development.  Cooler nights and mild temperatures during the day helped retain the acidity and aromas of the fruit.
