2017 Petit Verdot
Tasting Notes: The 2017 Ehlers Estate Petit Verdot is one of my favorite wines. This 100% Petit Verdot and is a beautiful expression of the varietal. Deep dark layers of purple color. It starts with aromas of dark fruits: blackberries, black cherry and ripe juicy black plum. Followed by cedar, molasses, and dark chocolate. The palate has firm tannins and round structure. Rich in flavors like sweet mocha, rich spice and dark berries. The finish is long and elegant. Good acidity makes this ready to drink now, but it will age nicely for 15-20 more years.
Vintage Notes: 2017 began with abundant rainfall, followed by a mild Spring resulting in extended flowering with little shatter. A Labor Day weekend heatwave kicked harvest into high gear, then cool weather allowed sugar levels to return to normal. By October 4th, all our grapes were happily fermenting in tanks, most of them already pressed and in barrels starting malolactic fermentation.
