2019 Jean Leducq Cabernet Sauvignon

2019 Jean Leducq Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes: Every season, every harvest is different. There are little nuances in each block. Each of them tells me a different story; they go, as humans, through unique experiences every season, they express themselves differently, and, as a winemaker, I love to unfold their stories. The Jean Leducq Cabernet Sauvignon always comes from a block with a distinctive soul. In 2019 that was block 5, clone 4 - the result was a bold wine with elegant tannins and tons of personality. Deep purple, mineral aromas, smoky, mixed berries, fresh tobacco leaf, dark chocolate. The mouth is firm in tannins with a full-body—upfront, very fruity with dark chocolate, licorice, and dry herbs. Decant for the best experience to consume now. Will age well for 15-20 more years. Unfined/Unfiltered.

Vintage: 2019 turned out to be a near-perfect vintage.  With a cold rainy winter and extended rainy season into late spring, we had a couple of weeks delay in flowering and setting.  All the work in the vineyard was tricky due to the rains.  But a warm, late summer helped us to catch up phenologically.  A cooling trend followed the summer that allowed us to hang the fruit longer for more flavor and tannin development.  Cooler nights and mild temperatures during the day helped retain the acidity and aromas of the fruit.
